Can you tell us about yourself?
In 2022, I graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering with a minor in mathematics. I currently work as a Software Verification Engineer at ENSCO which is an engineering company that delivers products to government and private sector clients across aerospace and national security.
Ever since my undergrad, I’ve been fascinated by the rapid evolution of AI. So, I decided to pursue a Master of Engineering degree, focusing specifically on AI. I started to research different programs, and the idea of returning to UIC and enrolling in their online Master of Engineering with a focus area in AI and Machine Learning just made sense.
How have you applied your knowledge into your current job?
In my role as a software verification engineer, I’m constantly testing and debugging programs ensuring the reliability and functionality of our software solutions. I consistently leverage insights gained from my master’s program to elevate our testing procedures and bolster software quality. Courses like MENG 407: Innovation Tools and Methods have honed my testing methodologies and MENG 401: Engineering Management taught me how to approach diverse projects with assurance. My master’s program has equipped me with the skills necessary to foster innovation in my role.
Were there any real-world applications or projects in your MEng courses that you found useful or valuable?
Yes, our coursework extended beyond theoretical discussions into tangible real-world applications. One particular project that stands out was in the CS 412: Intro to Machine Learning course, where we were tasked with managing a range of data sets. Through organization and thorough analysis, we were able to identify errors, rectify discrepancies, and pinpoint specific sections that required further attention. It helped teach me how to be more efficient and accurate.
Are there any exciting projects you’re currently working on?
I’m currently working on an incredibly exciting project centered around temperature prediction, particularly in the context of global warming. This involves harnessing vast datasets to improve the accuracy of temperature forecasts. I explore the daily variations of temperature fluctuations. I look at different patterns and trends that can inform predictive models across the United States.
What are your future career endeavors?
I’m incredibly passionate about exploring AI and its potential. My plan is to talk to my manager about integrating AI into more of my work. Since graduating, I have a solid foundation of working knowledge in AI, I’m eager to engage in more intricate AI projects.
I also see myself exploring opportunities in project management and software architecture. I see them as pivotal roles where I can leverage my expertise in AI. I aspire to become an expert in recognizing AI opportunities and implementing strategies that harness its transformative power effectively.
